On the evening of the 8 Aug. an engine from White Salmon was deployed to the Rowena Fire to assist with the initial fire fighting effort. The assembled crew consisted of volunteers from the three local fire departments White Salmon, Bingen and Fire District 3. Eng. 9 was assigned to structure protection in the Rowena area and remained on scene until relieved the following morning by Oregon fire fighting crews.

While the Rowena Fire had everyone’s attention locally another large fire, the Snag Canyon Fire, was threatening homes north of Ellensburg. Fire District 3’s Water Tender 314, from Sta. 31 in Husum, was assigned to a strike team and headed out to this fire Wednesday morning at approximately 0100 (1 a.m.). They have been on scene since early Wednesday (9 Aug. 2014) and are still there. They have been on the fire protecting structures and supplying water to other fire fighting equipment since that time.
